Denise Crews

With over 25 years of nonprofit experience, I am currently a housing consultant, supporting organizations and communities in the areas of affordable housing, economic mobility, and asset building. I previously served as the Director of Income and Asset Building Services at Commonwealth Catholic Charities (CCC), a leading organization known for its compassionate and holistic support of individuals and families in need. In that role, I managed a wide range of programs aimed at improving economic well-being and housing stability for low-income and vulnerable populations.
My core competencies include affordable housing development, housing counseling and financing, grant writing, program administration, and regulatory compliance. I hold a Master of Arts in Nonprofit, Public, and Organizational Management from the University of Lynchburg and recently earned a second Master of Arts in Liberal Arts and Sciences from Johns Hopkins University. I am also a certified housing counselor through both the Virginia Association of Housing Counselors and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

I am passionate about expanding access to homeownership, strengthening financial literacy, and advancing community development. I bring a proven track record of securing and managing local, state, and federal grants, and in building strong partnerships with agencies and organizations across the housing and human services landscape.
