Organization Summary:

The Housing Partnership, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Lemay, an area in south St. Louis County. We are proud to be designated as a Community Development Housing Organization and a HUD approved housing counseling agency, where most of our clients are low/moderate-income households. Our mission is to create and preserve healthy and affordable homes, support financially stable households, as well as facilitate commercial development in Lemay. Our agency focuses its efforts on three main areas: Homebuyer Services, Home Repair, and Residential Development.

Position Summary:

The Housing Counselor supports the Housing Program Manager in the day-to-day operations of the Homebuyer Services program, which is designed to help clients purchase and maintain their home. They work directly with clients to help them meet their homeownership goals, and they ensure their files have the necessary documents for HUD and other program funders. While some knowledge in the housing and financial education sectors is preferred, there will be ongoing training to ensure competency in the requirements of the agency and external program funders.

Potential programs could include:

  • Homebuyer education and counseling
  • Down payment and closing cost assistance
  • Mortgage assistance and counseling
  • Rental assistance

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect and process client documents as required for programs, including file maintenance, checklists, quality control, document analysis and approval, and preparing closing documents
  • Ensure that electronic and hard copy files are maintained for each client in accordance with HUD and specific program funder’s requirements
  • Continuously update notes on client progress in the agency’s client management system
  • Conduct one-on-one counseling sessions with clients to help them to understand their unique situation related to the process of purchasing or maintaining a home. Covers income and ratio evaluation for potential mortgage loan attainment/modification, credit report review and recommendations, monthly spending plan development, and additional program requirements.
  • Assist in preparing data for programmatic reports on a monthly and quarterly basis
  • Assist in conducting informational homebuyer orientations to potential clients on a twice-monthly basis, typically held during evenings and weekends
  • Assist in the development and implementation of a marketing and outreach plan in order to achieve annual program goals and outcomes
  • Perform other duties as deemed necessary

Qualifications:

  • 1+ year of experience in mortgage lending, real estate, case management, or related field preferred
  • Familiarity with housing and financial education sectors preferred
  • Proficient knowledge of Windows operating system and Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, etc)
  • HUD Housing Counseling Certification preferred, or willingness to obtain within 6 months of employment

  • Ability to work independently and as a productive team member
  • Detail oriented with the ability to manage the big picture and specific goals
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate with clients, lenders, realtors, and others to help clients meet their homeownership goals
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule including limited evenings and weekends

Salary and Benefits:

Salary: $35,000-$38,000

Full-time position with benefits such as paid Federal holidays, paid vacation, health/vision/dental insurance, etc as determined in The Housing Partnership, Inc. Employee Handbook.
