Purpose of Announcement
EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT WEST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF JEFFERSON COMMUNITY ACTION PROGRAMS AND FUTURE VACANCIES AS THEY OCCUR.
Kind of Work
Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to provide objective information, education, advice and guidance to low and moderate income families for obtaining, maintaining and retaining appropriate housing. Position is responsible for educating participants on the eligibility requirements to receive funding. Performs intake duties and determines applicant eligibility for housing programs administered by Jefferson Parish. Explains program policies, procedures, rules and regulations to potential applicants. Maintains applicant files and records; inputs initial and subsequent data into system; copies relevant documentation for files. Performs other duties assigned by Housing Manager. May be required to drive to various locations throughout the parish to perform job duties. Position requires driving of a personal vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and personal automobile with minimum liability insurance available for business use (business travel is reimbursed on a mileage basis) will be given preference.
Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination
Certification as a Housing Counselor by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is required; plus, must meet one of the following three options:
I. Current employment with Jefferson Parish and permanent civil service status in the classification of Housing Counselor I.
II. Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
III. A minimum of three (3) years of experience providing information, guidance, or counseling to individuals applying to, or enrolled in, a housing assistance program.
Kind of Examination(ENTRANCE AND PROMOTIONAL)
The examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, an oral panel interview or any combination thereof. Acceptable applicants will be notified of the time, date, and place of any assembled testing. Applicants must supply complete and accurate information concerning their training and experience including a detailed description of their work experience, the names and addresses of all previous employers and the dates of employment. The information is subject to verification and the Personnel Department reserves the right to determine the quality and quantity of education and experience claimed for credit.
