Homeownership Counselor

GO Northwest Housing Resource Center, a HUD approved  housing counseling nonprofit organization is looking for a committed, skilled, detailed oriented person to join our Homeownership Services staff to educate and counsel clients to help them  achieve successful home purchase, financial stability, and foreclosure prevention. As our Homeownership Counselor, you will provide financial and homeownership education, counseling, coaching, access to resources and conduct related administrative activities to help  grow and sustain homeownership in Baltimore neighborhoods and implement our homeownership counseling and financial capability programs in the Baltimore area .

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Coordinate and conduct group educational workshops and presentations on financial capability and home purchase.

·         Conduct client intake: interview clients to assess client homeownership and financial needs, collect and verify client documentation with respect to overall financial situation and capacity

·         Provide one-on-one homeownership counseling to include: analyze/discuss credit report, affordability, debt management/ savings; develop action plans, budgets; and provide access to available resources to achieve identified goals.

·         Assist clients in reviewing/understanding financial and housing documents, processes, and programs to help clients achieve homeownership goals.

·         Coordinate and conduct financial coaching sessions to help clients improve financial stability.

·         Conduct and track regular follow-up with clients to resolve issues, complete documentation,  and confirm achievement of homeownership and financial plans

·         Determine and ensure client eligibility for foreclosure programs, loss mitigation options and other alternatives to avoid foreclosure and ensure financial stability.

·         Work with clients and loan servicers to help clients maintain their home or achieve desired homeownership outcomes related to foreclosure.

·         Collect, input, and manage client data; maintain and monitor client files and databases utilizing client management system and other computer technology.

·         Prepare progress reports and other documentation in a timely and efficient manner

·         Be knowledgeable of and current on homeownership issues, programs, products and resources available in greater Baltimore region to help clients select those best suited for their needs

·         Participate in outreach and marketing activities for our homeownership and financial capacity services/ programs..

·         Work with staff on projects and other tasks deemed necessary to achieve our overall goals and operate successful financial capacity and housing counseling programs

·         Performs related duties as assigned.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

·         Bachelor’s degree, minimum 2 years’ work experience in homeownership, financial or rental counseling; mortgage lending/processing; social work; business or closely related field.

o    AA degree, with 5+ years’ work experience in the aforementioned areas

·         Housing counseling certification preferred. Must obtain HUD housing counseling certification within 3 months of hire required.

·         Current certifications from NeighborWorks America for Homeownership Education, Counseling, Default /Delinquency, NCHEC or HUD certifications desired.

·         Experience in conducting financial, rental and/or housing counseling in the greater Baltimore Metro area desired

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

·         Working knowledge of housing or financial counseling components/process and service delivery

·         Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills strong ability to communicate,  listen effectively and work well with individuals from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds

·         Strong organizational and administrative skills, detail oriented and deadline focused.

·         Working experience with client management systems (CMS) in day-to-day work production

·         Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Zoom, and/or other relevant software/programs

·         Professionalism and commitment to excellence, quality customer service and service delivery. :

·         Must maintain client and Center confidentiality: manage sensitive and confidential information with integrity

·         Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team: ability to manage and prioritize assigned tasks.

·         Able to pass the National HUD Certification Exam within 3 months of employment

 

 

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS & NATURE OF WORK:

·         Full time position – willingness/able to work flexible schedule with some evening and weekend work required.  Have access to/use of operable motor vehicle.

·         Working knowledge/ability to operate office equipment; ability to set up, conduct, and break down presentations, handle and review files, and to lift at least 25 lbs.

·         This position normally requires the physical demands of standing, walking, bending, lifting, or performing other work requiring medium exertion, talking, and hearing on a regular basis to perform the job requirement

·         Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications; position includes benefits: Health insurance including dental and vision; paid leave, job related professional development

 

Salary Range: $44,000-$48,000 yr.
